This noble beverage was created by Ambroge Vermollen, a 16th century Dutch emigrant, who settled in Gdansk and began producing cardamom liqueur according to his own recipe. When Vermollen was granted citizenship of Gdansk in 1598, he established a liqueur factory in the city, which he named ‘Der Lachs’ (The Salmon) - after the royal fish considered a symbol of happiness and prosperity. The excellent liqueur enjoyed a well-deserved reputation, earning it the title ‘Liqueur of kings - king among liqueurs’ and finding its way onto the tables of the most prominent figures of the time. As early as 1767, it was supplied to the court of Catherine the Great. The liqueur recipe has been passed down from generation to generation and is now owned by Count von Hardenberg, owner of a liqueur factory in Germany. All the ingredients proportions the order and the way they are combined are still a company secret to this day. Today, the liqueur is produced according to an old recipe in Norten-Hardenberg. According to one of the legends from Gdansk, it was Neptune who contributed to the creation of the famous Gdansk Goldwasser liqueur. Indignant that coins were being thrown into the fountain, which would clog the fountain, he struck the water with his trident and smashed the gold into tiny flakes, which have since adorned the wonderful herbal liquor with their brilliance.
The unique premium liqueur combines the 'Original Danziger Goldwasser' and the best V.S.O.P brandy from Chardonnay grapes from France, matured for four years. In addition, selected herbs and spices and bitter orange peel refine this extraordinary liqueur and give it a harmonious, intense flavour. Real 22-carat gold flakes complete the whole and make this product very special.
