Mundivie S.A. was invited to Zwack's company in Budapest for a two-day product training. Our employees had the opportunity to learn about the interesting history of the creation of the Unicum product, as well as the history of the Zwack family and company.
Zwack was founded in 1790 and is still a family business today. It is known for the production of the already mentioned Unicum liqueur (exported to 40 countries), Palinka and wines. After the Second World War, the factory passed into state ownership, but attempts to recreate the original recipe proved unsuccessful. It was not until 1989 that the Zwack family bought back the factory and resumed production according to their proprietary recipe.
The basic version of the liqueur consists of around 40 ingredients. During a tour of the factory, one of the rooms contains a variety of spices and herbs, which they say can be used in production, but the full recipe the family has kept for years. Of the ingredients on display, the spices and herbs caught our eye (and especially our noses).
